COURSE DESCRIPTION

Minimally Invasive Dentistry: From Philosophy to Practice

Minimally invasive dentistry extends beyond materials and techniques—it is a philosophy that guides clinical decision making. This presentation builds upon foundational concepts by focusing on their practical application in daily restorative care.

Through a prosthodontic perspective, the lecture examines the role of etiology, airway dysfunction, and parafunction in tooth wear, restorative failure, and long-term dental breakdown. Emphasis is placed on identifying when additive restorative approaches, including the Vonlay concept, are indicated as conservative alternatives to traditional full-coverage restorations.

Clinical cases will demonstrate how biologically compatible materials and minimally invasive preparation designs can be incorporated into restorative treatment planning to preserve tooth structure and improve long-term predictability.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

03

Incorporate biologically compatible materials and minimally invasive preparation designs into everyday restorative decision making.
